All about COPD

What is COPD?

COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a group of lung conditions which make it difficult to empty air out of your lungs because the airways have become narrowed.

The airways become narrowed because lung tissue has been damaged, mucous can build up and block parts of the airways and the airways themselves can be inflamed and swollen.

COPD does not go away, although you may find that some days are better than others, so it’s important to do things which can protect your breathing and try to avoid things that can make it worse.

More information about COPD is available at the British Lung Foundation
